Topic : Circulatory System
In this lesson students should understand the three components of circulatory system which is
- medium (blood)
- vessel
- heart
Human blood is made up of plasma (55%) and cellular components (45%). Blood plasma (water, ions, plasma proteins, hormones, dissolved substances) is the main transport medium in the body.
Cellular components of blood consist of platelets, leucocytes (white blood cell) and erythrocytes (red blood cell). Platelets play an important role in blood clotting, white blood cell important in defense mechanism and red blood cell important as transport medium. Can you list down substances tranport by red blood cell..??
There are three types of human blood vessel; arteries, veins and capillaries. In this topic, student should able to differentiate between arteries, veins and capillaries in term of wall, lumen, valve, blood pressure, and function.
Last part in this topic is heart. Heart pumps the blood which
- carries important substances (oxygen/nutrients/etc) required by the body
- removes waste (carbon dioxide/urea/etc) that the body does not need.
In this topic, student should capture basic structure of heart, able to explain how the blood propelled out from the body and able to explain how blood pressure regulated.
